Veterans Golf - News
This Wednesday’s competition will be a Team Stableford with the teams decided by a ‘fair’ draw on the day. You will need to record the Stableford scores of each player on each hole and write the combined total in the extreme RH column (the one labelled Points). With four scores on each hole, the target winning total should be somewhere around 125 points. We will see!
The weather forecast for Wednesday is now cold and dry (after a wet Tuesday) but you know my track record in this respect so be prepared for all four seasons. The fairways and greens were recovering nicely from the winter and we even had some run from our drives on Sunday! However, the ball was still picking up chunks of mud in the semi-rough so we will continue for the time being with lifting, cleaning and placing anywhere except in hazards.
As I mentioned last week, we intend to follow the CONGU request to make competitions qualify for handicap adjustments whenever possible – even under winter rules – but we cannot do it at the moment while allowing placing anywhere. I hope that we can get back to normal in early March.
Don’t forget to put your name down for any London Beach logo’d clothing you would like to order for the coming match season – see the noticeboard. Apart from being practical and smart golf wear, I notice that a team turning out in ‘uniform’ gets a psychological advantage over its opponents. It makes us look as if we know what we are doing! Peter Ralph will bring a selection of sizes along on Wednesday and will give us the relevant prices. Thanks, Peter, it’s much appreciated.
Also on the noticeboard you will see forms for entering the matchplay competitions to be run during the season and for the Captain’s Drive-in on 12th March.
The Club is making good progress with its new website, which you can now visit at http://www.londonbeachgolfclub.co.uk. Click on the Veterans button on the left to visit ‘our’ area. Over the next few days, I will add our 2008 diary, recent results and this newsletter. Any suggestions for additional items would be welcome but they must fit into the three free pages we have been given (Diary, Results, News). This is another way in which our proprietor Pierre Edmonds is supporting us and I know we will all want to reciprocate. Pierre especially appreciates us playing in his events such as the Bulmers Pairs, Seniors Open and Captain’s Day so I hope we will support him to the full. I know he is already delighted that we have ten pairs entered for the Bulmers Pairs. Let’s keep it up!
Look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday.
